The history of Altötting goes back more than 2,000 years. Faith plays a central role in Altötting’s culture. For 1,200 years, devout people from all over the world have been making pilgrimages to Altötting to see the relics of the apostles and the “Black Madonna” in the Chapel of Grace. Beyond being a magnet for the faithful, the Inn-Salzach region is home to other cultural treasures: the exciting combination of history and Bavarian tradition can be see in the various museums in the regional towns. In addition to the Chapel of Grace and pilgrimage museum in Altötting, you can visit the interactive town museum in Burghausen, the oldest operating hammer mill in Europe or the open-air museum in Massing.
